Get Fit Fast Challenge: 10-Minute Heart Health Workout
All you need for this heart-pumping routine is open floor space and yourself.
Cardio has a reputation for requiring fancy machines, wide-open spaces, or a whole lot of time, but all you really need for a great workout for your heart and lungs is a few minutes and square feet of open floor space.
In this video, SilverSneakers Live instructor Sims Corbett shares a no-gear, at-home cardio routine that you can do in as little as 10 minutes.
How the 10-Minute Heart Health Workout Works
Find a few square feet of open floor space. If you’d like support during any of the exercises, set up near a wall or sturdy chair. It’s also helpful to have water. Hydrate throughout the workout, taking breaks as needed.
To keep tabs on your effort, use a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the hardest. You can ramp up or dial down as you need, but Sims recommends sticking in the 6 to 8 range for the cardio workout. As you move, keep breathing, prioritize good form, and listen to your body. You should be able to speak in short sentences, but if you could sing a full song without getting winded, she recommends increasing your exercise intensity as you’re comfortable.
As always, safety is key. The exercises here may be different or more advanced than those you’ll experience in a SilverSneakers class. If you have a chronic condition, an injury, or balance issues, talk to your doctor about how you can exercise safely.
