Have you ever been talking to someone, and they seem more concerned with their cell phone than what you’re saying? Or have you ever been the person more occupied with your phone?

In today’s society, it is a common occurrence. A recent survey by Pew Research Center found that 82 percent of all adults (not just cell phone users) say when people use their cell phones at social gatherings, it hurts the conversation, not to mention the atmosphere. Below are some tips you and your loved ones can use to minimize your mobile distractions during the holidays.

Host an unplugged party

Make it clear in advance that your party is cell-phone free. There’s no need to tell guests to leave their phones at home, just ask them to turn them off or place them on silent. The trick is to set the expectation early, but don’t reprimand anyone breaking the rule.

Dining out? As soon as you sit down, have everyone place their phones in the middle of the table. The first person to check his or her phone has to cover the meal.

Check your phone at the door

If you enjoy making crafts, consider decorating a wooden box with cell phone cubbies and kindly ask guests to check their phones at the door.
